I like what’s happening in Jesmond. New restaurants galore! This new one is all about health. Open Monday to Sunday, Fitness Kitchen is taking on the markets like that of Aurora Kitchen in Newcastle and Naked Deli in Heaton and Gosforth. The question was could it compete and take the gap in the market in Jesmond? Saturday afternoon and the sun was out shining. There wasn’t a better reason to eat out. But where can you go that’s healthy in and around Jesmond? Well Fitness Kitchen was the destination. Offering breakfast, protein build-a-box, burgers and wraps, they’ve gone for fast food that’s healthy! I had a choice of seats and decided to sit in front of the television with the football on. Why not? I went for a protein build-a-box at £6.95. Here, you choose your base, protein, sides and sauce. Therefore, for my box, I chose rosemary sweet potato fries, chicken, greens (asparagus, kale, broccoli, spinach and courgette) and beetroot ketchup. Phil (the manager) brought me the box after around fifteen minutes. He was full of passion and was excited by his new acquisition. It was a colourful, heavy box of health. Without any hesitation, I tucked in. The chicken was grilled perfectly and tender. The winner of the box was the rosemary sweet potato fries. I was in my Saturday element. It was brilliant. I felt full. I felt fit. Although Fitness Kitchen has just opened and needs more options, it is situated in a great location where students will enjoy its ease of healthy fast food. With little competition too, it has a real chance.
